Over the weekend, the Lib Dems fired off an election salvo that appeared to blame the Government for higher rates, despite the fact that the Bank of England sets them and has since The Drugs Don’t Work was in the charts.
According to Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson, Sarah Olney:
“This Conservative government crashed the economy and now they are condemning hard-working households to a mortgage nightmare. Rishi Sunak’s claim that the government’s plan is working shows he is living in a parallel universe, as every day thousands of families are seeing their mortgage go up by eye-watering amounts.”
The curious General Election missive was also infused with a large dollop of the bleedin’ obvious, i.e. people remortgaging between now and 4 July will be paying loads more each month. Really? Nobody had noticed.
Brokers on Newspage were nonplussed and went to town on the Lib Dems, at least those who knew who they are did. One mortgage expert, Bob Singh of Chess Mortgages, said he had never heard of them, before polishing off a glass of Rioja and starting his latest viral video on TikTok.
Our immediate thought was that Sarah is in just as much of a parallel universe as Rishi, and that people in parallel universes shouldn’t throw stones. That’s if they are stones. They could be geese. Or Pot Noodles.
